Some wedding days are memorable because everything goes exactly as planned. Others are memorable because, despite the challenges, the joy of the day shines through in every single moment. Jewelee and Rubin's wedding was definitely the latter.
On one of the hottest Saturdays of the summer, with temperatures soaring well over 40°C and mosquitoes making their presence known, these two never stopped smiling. The heat may have been relentless, but it certainly didn't stop us from creating some truly beautiful memories together.
The day began with Jewelee and her bridesmaids getting ready in their hotel suite, where I captured all of the little details that make a wedding day so special, the dress, jewelry, florals, and those quiet moments of anticipation before everything begins.
From there, we made our way to Silver Heights Bible Church for their beautiful ceremony. The church was decorated with elegant florals and soft candlelight surrounding the altar, creating such a warm and timeless atmosphere as Jewelee and Rubin exchanged their vows surrounded by family and friends.
Following the ceremony, we captured family portraits inside the church before heading outdoors to one of Weyburn's hidden gems along Sask Drive. The tree-lined roadway provided the perfect backdrop for family and wedding party portraits, offering welcome shade and beautiful greenery despite the summer heat.
Our next stop was the historic Weyburn Courthouse. Its manicured gardens, mature trees, beautiful fountain, and classic architecture made it the perfect setting for even more wedding party portraits before the three of us spent some time exploring around town together, creating relaxed and romantic portraits that truly reflected who they are as a couple.
The celebration continued in Yellow Grass, where family and friends gathered for an evening filled with laughter, heartfelt speeches, and wonderful food catered by Charolettes Catering Service.
One of my favourite moments of the evening came during Jewelee's parents' welcome-to-the-family speech. They presented Rubin with a bright red apron that proudly read, "I'm a Keeper," a thoughtful and humorous gift that had everyone smiling and perfectly reflected the warmth and love shared between both families.
Another highlight was their beautiful traditional Norwegian wedding cake, known as a Kransekake. More than just a stunning centerpiece, the cake carries a meaningful tradition in Norwegian weddings. The bride and groom lift the top layer together, and the number of cake rings that remain attached is said to predict how many children they will have. It was such a wonderful way to honour family heritage while adding a unique and memorable moment to the reception.
As the evening wound down, we slipped away one final time to take advantage of the beautiful Saskatchewan sunset. After a day filled with sunshine, laughter, celebration, and more than a little perseverance through the heat, the golden evening light gave us the perfect ending to an incredible wedding day. Those quiet moments together produced some of my favourite images from the entire celebration and were the perfect way to conclude their story.
Jewelee and Rubin, thank you so much for trusting me to capture such an important chapter in your lives. It was an absolute pleasure spending the day with you, your families, and your friends. I hope these photographs allow you to relive every smile, every laugh, and every heartfelt moment for many years to come.
