There is something extra special about a wedding day that happens at home.
Not a venue made to look rustic or somewhere styled to feel personal, but the actual place where life happens every other day, transformed for one really incredible one.
Brittany and Pete’s wedding day was exactly that.
We started the morning right on their farm, where wedding-day preparations were happening out of camper trailers, which was honestly such a fun change from the usual hotel room! Brittany spent the morning with her bridesmaids, with family popping in and out while hair and makeup were underway and everyone hung out in their matching silk robes.
Pete and the guys were getting ready in another camper nearby, but we borrowed the couple’s front porch for their photos where we had a little more room to work. There was something pretty perfect about photographing Pete getting ready for his wedding on the porch of the home he shares with Brittany.
Once hair and makeup were finished, it was time for Brittany to get into her dress, followed by the sweetest reveal with her bridesmaids. And then we were off to the ceremony, although Brittany and her girls had a slightly more memorable mode of transportation planned.
They arrived by tractor and trailer.
And really, could there have been a more perfect entrance for this day?
With the prairie stretching out behind them, Brittany and Pete said their I dos surrounded by their family and friends. Their ceremony incorporated pieces of their family history as well, making it feel deeply connected not only to the two of them, but to the people and generations who helped bring them to this day.
After they were officially married, the bride, groom, wedding party and I all piled onto the trailer behind the tractor and headed out for photos around the farm.
We also apparently convinced the horses that we were bringing supper.
They followed us around hopefully while we photographed the wedding party, and while they may not have received the meal they were expecting, they made a pretty fantastic addition to the afternoon. 😂
From there we made our way back toward Brittany and Pete’s home for family photos before everyone gathered again for the reception, also right there on the farm.
Dinner was an absolutely delicious BBQ spread with brisket and all the sides, followed by one of my favourite parts of the day: sneaking Brittany and Pete away for their sunset portraits. The light over the open fields was gorgeous, and after a full day surrounded by everyone they love, it gave the two of them a little pocket of time together before heading back into the celebration.
The evening brought heartfelt speeches, their first dance, plenty of laughter, a personalized shot ski, because obviously this wedding needed one more wonderfully fun detail, and then a packed dance floor to finish the night.
From camper trailers and tractors to horses, BBQ, prairie sunsets and a party under their own roof, there wasn't much about Brittany and Pete's day that felt like a "typical" wedding.
And that's exactly what made it so good.
