Some wedding mornings are calm and quiet. Others include mimosas, pretty silk pajamas, and one very determined flower girl who decides the morning has simply been far too peaceful.
I started the day with Cassie, her bridesmaids, her daughter, her mom, and her mother-in-law as everyone got ready together. The room was full of laughter, clinking champagne glasses, and the kind of relaxed excitement that makes wedding mornings so much fun to photograph. Then, in true toddler fashion, Cassie’s sweet little girl had one spectacular meltdown the moment her flower girl dress went on. Thankfully, after a little Bluey, a few treats, and some extra love from Mom and one of the bridesmaids, she was back to her happy self and looking absolutely adorable.
With everyone ready to go, it was time to head over to Signal Hill Arts Centre and get these two married!
Cassie and Nathan said their I do’s outside Weyburn’s iconic Signal Hill Arts Centre, tucked into the shade of the evergreens and surrounded by their nearest and dearest, including their two sweet kiddos. These two were all smiles from beginning to end and genuinely seemed to be having the absolute best day. It was a lovely ceremony, and after being officially announced as husband and wife and sealing the deal with a kiss, they took a few minutes to hug, visit, and celebrate with their guests.
From there, we moved into family formals before gathering up the wedding party for photos around the Signal Hill Arts Centre grounds. With plenty of evergreens and little pockets of shade to work with, we had lots of variety without having to venture far. Their wedding party brought plenty of energy and laughs to the photos before I stole Cassie and Nathan away for some sweet portraits of just the two of them.
Once we wrapped up at Signal Hill, it was off to Makenna Hall to celebrate!
Cassie and Nathan had done a beautiful job decorating the reception space with flowers, floating candles, and twinkling lights that gave the hall such a warm glow. After their grand entrance, everyone settled in for a wonderful turkey supper prepared by the amazing caterers at Makenna Hall.
The speeches that followed kept the room smiling and laughing before it was time to clear some space for the dances. Cassie and Nathan shared their first dance, followed by the father-daughter and mother-son dances, and from there the party was officially underway. This crowd definitely knew how to have a good time, and the dance floor quickly became one of the busiest places in the room!
Just before sunset, Cassie, Nathan, and I slipped away from the reception and headed to their home for some very special photos with their beloved dog, Thor. Only days before the wedding, they had received the heartbreaking news that Thor was sick and that they would soon have to say goodbye. Knowing how precious that time had suddenly become, making sure he was included in their wedding photos felt especially important. I’m incredibly glad we were able to capture the three of them together on such an important day.
After giving Thor some love, we headed over to Saskatchewan Drive for one last round of bride and groom portraits. The beautiful tree-lined roadway made the perfect backdrop as the evening light softened, giving us some gorgeous final portraits before heading back to Makenna Hall.
We finished the night right where we left off, surrounded by friends and family, with music playing, the dance floor full, and Cassie and Nathan soaking up every last bit of their wedding celebration.
